| August 12, 2011

Have you been in the situation where you're working diligently on the computer and out of nowhere the screens quickly shifts to a menacing shade of blue, and the words "FATAL ERROR" dance before your eyes? Many a man, woman, and child that use Windows XP operating system on their personal computers live in fear of it.

There are many causes for what is now known as the "blue screen of death." Some are simple fixes, and some are not so. Let's discuss in length the latter, dealing with their causes and their cures. In terms of software, its possible for the computer to have had XP itself or an update of it installed improperly.

This would cause the computer to become unstable and eventually crash. Best way to resolve it is to load the operating system install or update disk, have it run at start up of the computer, and choose "repair" from a list it shows you. Another software related issue could be that the PC is infected with either one or many harmful viruses. For prevention, make sure you have a well known reputable virus software installed and run it often. If a computer is already infected, it can always help to still install the software and run it to get rid of as many problems as possible.

Software aside, the computer itself could be in a place that is poorly ventilated. Make sure its in an open space where the exhaust fans can expel hot air.
